Explore the hidden wonders of the Annapurna region in a truly unique way with this combined Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek package. This exciting trek combines two amazing adventures: the classic Annapurna Circuit and a challenging side trip to Tilicho Lake. The trekking journey leads you through diverse landscapes, encounter rich local culture, and witness stunning views of the Annapurna Himalayas.

Gradually adjusting to the thin air and enjoying the mountain scenery, you'll prepare to cross the famous Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters), one of the highest walkable passes in the world. In addition, visiting Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site, adds spiritually uplifting experiences to your Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek.

This 19-day Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek begins with a drive to Besisahar rather than directly to Chame or Manang. This approach offers better acclimatization and reduces altitude sickness risk. Starting lower, you'll enjoy a more gradual ascent and a richer cultural journey through the Annapurna region.

From Besisahar, you'll begin your trekking journey to Tilicho Lake. You trek through notable settlements like Chyamche, Dharapani, and Chame, offering incredible panoramas of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna peaks. As you reach Pisang, you'll explore its lower and upper medieval towns, both influenced by Tibetan culture.

The trek continues to Manang, where the Tibetan ambiance is strong, with Gangapurna, Tilicho, and Pisang Peak views. From Manang, you'll set off for one of the major highlights of this trek, an adventure to the famous Tilicho Lake (4,919 meters). You must take the three-day detour since it doesn't lie on the official Annapurna Circuit trail.

While walking towards Khangsar, you'll observe old Tibetan architecture. This remote village is also known as "the last village of Nepal".  The path to Tilicho Base Camp includes landside-prone areas and needs careful navigation. After passing this challenging section, you reach Tilicho Lake, one of the world's highest lakes. Getting to this peaceful place feels like a significant achievement.

Tilicho Lake's pristine beauty and accessibility make it a great addition to the Annapurna Circuit trek itinerary. After completing the Tilicho Lake trek, you rejoin the main Annapurna circuit trail to conquer the thrilling Thorong La Pass. From Shri Kharka, you climb to Yak Kharka, an area renowned for its blue sheep population. In this region, there is a rare chance of spotting the elusive snow leopard.

The trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi offers striking Himalayan landscapes. Thorong Phedi, the last settlement before Thorong La Pass, is a crucial overnight stop. Staying here allows for an early morning start to cross the pass, which is essential as the weather often deteriorates in the afternoon.

The ascent to Thorong La begins with a challenging climb on rugged, sometimes snow-covered terrain. After about an hour, you reach the High Camp. From there, the trail becomes less steep but steadily climbs above 5,000 meters. The route traverses back and forth across canyons, rewarding with stunning vistas of snow-capped peaks.

After a four to five-hour trek, you reach Thorong La Pass, which lies between the 6,000-meter Yakwakang Peak and Thorong Peak. A traditional chorten, prayer flags, and a congratulatory board mark the pass. From this vantage point, relish the magnificent Himalayas stretching north to Tibet and the Annapurna range to the south.

Thorong La Pass serves as the boundary between the Manang and Mustang valleys. Descending from the pass, you arrive at Muktinath, an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus. After exploring the temple, the trek concludes in Jomsom, where you'll catch a flight to Pokhara.

Pokhara, a central tourist hub, offers attractions like Phewa Lake, Peace Pagoda, International Mountain Museum, and Davis Falls. Following your time in Pokhara, a scenic road journey returns you to Kathmandu, marking the end of your Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek adventure.

This Annapurna Tilicho Lake trek package perfectly blends iconic routes and off-the-beaten-path experiences. The Annapurna Circuit and Tilicho Lake trek are famous trekking routes in the Himalayas. Combining both treks at one makes it even more adventurous, saving you time and money.

As you trek towards the famous Thorong La Pass, you'll detour to the pristine Tilicho Lake, one of the world's highest glacial lakes. This side trip enhances your trek by providing excellent acclimatization and rewards you with the unparalleled natural beauty of the Annapurna region.

Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek offers you awe-inspiring mountain views–  Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Manaslu, Annapurna South, Niligiri, Machhapuchre, Hiunchuli, Lamjung, Tukuche, and Tilicho Peak. Besides the diverse landscapes, this trek blessed you with the rich cultural heritage of the Annapurna region.

Today, you’ll ditch the dusty roads and start the Annapurna Circuit Tilicho Lake trek! After a long ride yesterday, it's time to walk. Wake up early, eat breakfast, then head out. Before leaving, check your trekking permits at the chekcpoint nearby. As you leave the village, cross a bridge over the Marsyangdi River. The trail then climbs a narrow path around rice fields and a few houses.

Follow the river for a bit, then cross it to reach Bhulbhule. Further, the path goes uphill until you meet a wide, dusty road. To get to Bahundanda, you'll need to climb some steep stairs. There's another checkpoint here, too, so get your permits re-checked.

Behind the village, you can see a stone gate. Across the valley, there's a cliff with a road carved into the mountain. Rest and relax when you reach Bahundanda. This place has a fantastic scene of green rice paddies that go up the mountainside like steps.

This bridge crosses over cliffs with wild water rushing underneath. After the bridge, the trekking path goes through the settlements of Ghermu and Syange, located very close together.

In Syange, the famous Annapurna Circuit trail reconnects with the road. Next, Jagat is a great place to stop for a hot meal before continuing. The trail to Chyamche follows the rushing river through dense forests, with some impressive waterfalls along the way. Finally, you'll reach your destination for the day, Chyamche. Today's trek leads you to Pisang, another captivating stop along the Annapurna circuit trekking route. The initial part of the trail winds through vibrant, colorful rhododendron forests. After several hours of trekking, you'll arrive at the tiny hamlet of Bhratang, known for its extensive apple farm orchard.

Continue walking and leaving the forest behind; the trail emerges onto the path leading to Dhukur Pokhari. From here, it's only an hour's hike to Pisang. The trail continues across meadows with a dried-up lake and a final ascent to the beautifully situated Upper Pisang. If you prefer a lower altitude, stay at Lower Pisang, located at the valley's base. The elevation difference between the two towns is only 100 meters.

Upper Pisang boasts a unique medieval character with houses clustered close together and few defined streets. A long mani wall adds to the region's cultural significance. Take advantage of exploring the beautiful monastery perched atop Upper Pisang. After exploring, you can return to Lower Pisang for the night.

Today's journey towards Manang offers two options: a lower trail, faster and less demanding, or a higher trail with picturesque landscapes. Many trekkers choose challenging, higher routes yet scenic, that reward with spectacular scenery. The trek begins with an ascent that leads to Ghyaru, a perfect spot for a tea break.

As you continue the walk, the section between Ghyaru to Ngawal offers first glimpses of the majestic Annapurna III (7,555m). Continuing from the old community of Ngawal, you'll come across horse-grazing pastures. Further, the trail winds through a scenic path to Braga village, where you'll rejoin the main road leading to Manang. A short walk of less than half an hour brings you to your destination.

Manang welcomes you with a distinctively Tibetan ambiance. Prayer wheels, mani walls, colorful prayer flags, and an attractive old town area create a unique atmosphere. This town is the central hub of the district, easily reached by jeep from the lowlands. Despite its remote location, the village offers many surprising amenities, including shops, a clinic, postal services, and an ATM. Enjoy the local culture by visiting the monastery and interacting with the friendly locals.

Today's a change of pace! We're leaving the main Annapurna Circuit trail and heading for the charming settlement of Khangsar. This hidden gem is tucked away in the Khangsar Khola Valley, offering a unique glimpse into traditional Tibetan life.

Starting from Manang, you'll pass through a western gate and follow a path to the Marsyangdi River. It's a short walk with phenomenal scenery as the trek rises above the river. The path gradually climbs upwards after crossing a suspension bridge, treating you to breathtaking panoramas.

Finally, you reach Khangsar, a village frozen in time with its old Tibetan architecture. This remote community is often called the "last village of Nepal," adding to its mystique. While you can continue towards Tilicho Base Camp today, spending extra time acclimatizing in Khangsar is wise. Soak up the fresh mountain air, explore the surroundings, and prepare your body for tomorrow’s higher altitudes.

Feeling refreshed and acclimatized after your time in Khangsar, today's adventure takes you to Tilicho Base Camp. The hike starts well, and after a while, you'll reach the settlement of Shri Kharka (4,045m).

Just past this village, the trek route splits into three. The upper path is long and difficult, while the middle path is the shortest but has some dangerous sections prone to landslides. The lower path isn't marked, so it's easy to get lost. Exercising caution, you'll take the middle path, the most popular choice for hikers and locals alike.

The trail is blessed with some stunning sights of Tilicho Peak and Khangsar Kang (also known as Rock Noir), a dramatic black rock formation. As you continue walking, you'll come to a bridge. Here, the trail starts to climb another hill. This section is the most photographed part of the trek to Tilicho Base Camp – a long, narrow path that winds across a steep slope of scree (loose rocks).

Be extra careful here, as the path can be slippery. Watch your steps and be aware of any falling rocks. After about 35-45 minutes of crossing this scree slope (it might feel a bit scary!), you'll finally arrive at Tilicho Base Camp.

Today's the big day – you're hiking to Tilicho Lake (4,919m), one of the major highlights of the entire Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek. This pristine lake is one of the world's highest lakes, making this a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

The trail gradually climbs up, taking you through rugged terrain with alluring panoramas of the surrounding mountain giants like Manaslu and Ngada Chuli. As you climb high, the air becomes thinner, and the landscape becomes more barren, but the excitement of reaching Tilicho Lake motivates you.

The well-marked trail zig-zags its way through a landslide area. At this altitude (almost 5,000 meters), you might feel a slight headache or nausea – typical symptoms of altitude sickness. But don't worry, this trek is helping you acclimatize, preparing you to conquer Thorong La Pass in the next few days with minimal trouble.

Finally, you reach the lake, and what a sight to behold. Crystal-clear waters reflect the majestic mountains that surround it, creating a scene of awe-inspiring beauty. Standing there, surrounded by this peaceful world at such a high altitude, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment shared by only a few adventurous trekkers. After soaking in the beauty of this natural wonder, you'll retrace your steps back down to Tilicho Base Camp, descending through the same thrilling scenery.

Leaving pristine Tilicho Lake behind, today's trek takes you back down to Yak Kharka, where you'll rejoin the main Annapurna Circuit trekking route. Your remarkable side trip to Tilicho Lake is complete.

You'll start by retracing your steps along a narrow path on steep slopes, so take it slowly and steadily. The route is mostly quiet, with occasional mule caravans. After passing through Shri Kharka, take the turnoff to the left that takes you to the abandoned village of Upper Khangsar. This place offers a unique, spooky atmosphere, making it a worthwhile quick detour.

From Upper Khangsar, the trail narrows and follows an ancient stone wall until you reach a ridge. Then, the trail dramatically descends a few hundrend to the Thorong Khola Valley. You'll cross a small creek bridge and begin a challenging climb, regaining the lost elevation. The scenery makes the effort worthwhile. Also, there is a chance of witnessing the Himalayan Blue Sheep.

You'll eventually rejoin the main road from Manang. Yak Kharka translates to "Yak Pasture". "Kharka" means pasture land; yaks graze freely on the vast, treeless meadows.

Today's a relaxed trek to prepare you for tomorrow's big climb over Thorong La Pass. After breakfast, you'll leave Yak Kharka and head towards Thorong Phedi, the base for the pass. Since you're well-acclimatized by now, this should be relatively easy. The trail is shorter and less steep today, with amazing Himalayan vistas. You might even see some local herders with their yaks – these animals are ideally suited for the high altitude.

After about an hour, you'll cross a suspension bridge and reach Ledar, a small stop. Be aware of a slightly tricky section after Ledar, where loose rocks might fall from the mountainside. It's best to wait your turn and cross individually for safety. Once you pass this section, you'll arrive at Thorong Phedi, your destination for tonight.

Here's a bonus tip: if you're feeling up for it, you can do a short hike to Thorong High Camp to help you get used to the even higher altitude for tomorrow's climb. You'll also familiarize yourself with the trail, making the climb easier. But don't overdo it – save your energy for the big day.

Physical Fitness

Many people have questions as to what level of physical fitness is required for visiting Nepal, and that is extremely reliant on what activity the visitor is engaging in. With that said, for a standard trek of moderate grading (Everest Base Camp Trek is an example of moderate) the daily activity will be 7-8 hours, and elevation will generally not exceed 5,500 meters. The day’s trekking is sustained and will involve both long steep climbs, and descents with a variety of terrain underfoot from well-trodden paths, to rocks covered with ice or snow. A typical day would include a number of climbs or descents of 500 meters or more, starting after breakfast, resting at lunch, then continuous trekking until arriving at the teahouse.

In preparation for the trek, it is important to begin a training requirement at least 4 months before departing for Nepal. Three to four hours of aerobic exercise like running, walking, swimming, cycling & some gym work per week is the minimum and most will find it beneficial to add some basic strength training to their physical fitness routine. One of the best ways to prepare is to take practice hikes with a daypack roughly the same weight as what you will be taking on the trek. Do this only after a baseline of fitness has been reached. Moving fast is not the end goal, rather endurance is the focus, and will provide a more enjoyable and safe adventure.

Trekking Seasons in Nepal

There are two main seasons in which Nepal sees the most amount of visitors. Fall (September through November) being the most popular, and spring (March to May) coming in close behind. The summer months of June, July and August are the monsoon season and as such the trails are mostly washed out, and roads can sometimes be impassible due to landslide activates. Not to mention the view is non-existent. Still, there are a few places that lie in rain shadow areas and see significantly less rain if any at all, and summer can be a good time to visit these places.

Winter in Nepal is dry, with very cold nights where temperatures can drop to -20°C at the highest altitudes, but the days are pleasant and sunny. Additionally, the trails are much less crowded during this time of year. In Kathmandu, maximum daytime temperatures reach around 20°C.

Fall is the most popular because it’s after the monsoons, and the air is dry, the days are sunny, and everything is green in the lower valleys from the excessive rains. Spring is a popular choice because some rain returns, but the weather is generally warm and dry, and flowers are in bloom in the lower elevations.

Trekking Day

A typical trekking day begins with a cup of tea at around 6 in the morning. It is advised to pack your trekking gears in a duffle bag and essential supplies in your day pack in these early hours. After having breakfast, we begin the trek and head along the trail at around 8 am. The morning walk is designed to be longer as we begin with refreshed bodies and enthusiasm. Following a good morning’s walk, we make stop for lunch at around 11.30 am. The lunch involves group meals enjoying the vicinity around the stop. You can explore the surrounding or use the time according to your own consent. After resting for about an hour or two, we resume our trek to reach teahouse or camp by 3-4 pm. The afternoon walk is relatively shorter and can involve games and side trips as organized by the trekking guides. You also can enjoy breaks during the trek to relax, read or stroll around the area. You can converse with the local people and observe their lifestyle. Dinner is served around 7 in the evening to round off the day.

Meals and Accommodations

During the length of the trek, the accommodation style is commonly referred to as teahouse. These are family-run basic lodges that fill the role of the restaurant, meeting place, and boarding house for tourists. Electricity can be found in the rooms, which means one light bulb, and one or two outlets for charging electronics. The common areas are also lit by electricity. Teahouses may use solar, hydroelectric, or have electrical lines running into the village, so the commonality and availability of electricity may vary.

Most teahouses have private rooms, though if the trek is in a more remote or high altitude place dormitories are the norm. Each room has 1 or 2 single beds with basic bedding, and the bathroom is shared. Expect a mix of western and squat style toilets in the bathrooms.

Breakfast and dinner are taken at the teahouse and these lodges have large family style dining rooms centered on a stove to provide heat. The menu will have Nepali style western foods such as pasta, pizza, pancakes, burgers, and fries. Also on the menu is the traditional Dal Bhat meal. This is a lentil soup with rice and vegetable or meat curry. Most menus will also offer a smattering of local cuisine.

Travel Insurance

Many expeditions and tours require that travel insurance is purchased prior to arriving in Nepal, but other treks and tours may not. However, travel insurance is definitely an important consideration. There are a number of reasons to consider insurance. Firstly, it may be required, so check to see what is being asked for by the company. Second, Nepal is a landlocked country, and there are few direct flights. Travel in and out can encounter some disruptions and if purchasing insurance, make sure flight delays and cancellations are included. The next reason to choose insurance is that, though every safeguard is in place during your tour, there are always extenuating circumstances that may result in an accident. Read the fine print of insurance policies to ensure trekking or any other activity you are engaging in is covered, as some policies have stopped covering trekking in certain places. It is impossible to have a relaxing trip without the comfort of good insurance, so do the research and choose carefully.

Nepal Visa Entry Procedure

For entry into Nepal, there are visa requirements everyone (except Indian nationals) must complete before being allowed to pass through immigration. This is for air travel as well as overland transportation. Most visitors may obtain a visa to enter Nepal, however, there are exceptions. There are a number of entry points where you can obtain the visa upon arriving by land, but Tribhuvan International Airport is the only one for air transport.

Visa on Arrival Tourist Visa

Three options are available for entry

15-day single entry: US $30

30-day single entry: US $50

90-day multiple entries: US $125

Please have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the time of entry, and have cash ready, preferably in US dollars, though there are other currencies Nepal Immigration accepts. If you are entering via overland, you must have US cash and 3 passport photos. For arrival by air, the kiosks at the airport take your picture for you.

For the most up to date list of exceptions for visa on arrival or to obtain the most current visa information, visit the Nepal Department of Immigration website.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)

Acute Mountain Sickness is usually seen in un-acclimatized people shortly after ascent to high altitudes. The condition occurs due to the thinning of air as the altitude increases. The condition, if not taken seriously and treated immediately, can be life-threatening and its symptoms can be seen generally above 3000 meters. Some of the symptoms of AMS are nausea, vomiting, tiredness, shortness of breath and cerebral pain. The treks are designed to properly acclimatize you to the change in high altitude climate and sufficient precautionary measures too are taken to take utmost caution. We also equip our staffs with cell phones and satellite phones in occurrence of any emergency cases. We are greatly driven to keep the safety and security of our clients as our foremost concern.

Drinking Water

Water is essential for life, and clean water is imperative while on holiday. When choosing to visit less developed countries it is a concern that all travelers should consider. A few options are available when trekking or traveling in Nepal that will mitigate any chances of drinking contaminated water which could cause disruption of an otherwise fun adventure. The first consideration to take into account is that tap water should not be ingested. That even means when brushing your teeth. Most will choose to buy bottled water and if doing so make sure the cap has not been opened previously. Plastic bottle refuse is a problem, and with that being said there are other options on the market to assist in making water drinkable. Your local outdoor store can help with choosing what option might be best to use in conjunction with a reusable bottle. Your guide can also steer you to water that has been filtered and purified so ask him or her what is available.

Arrival Instruction

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our company representatives are stationed to welcome you to the country. We request you to carefully look for your name being held by our representatives following the events upon landing. The representatives are responsible to escort you to your hotel in Kathmandu. You will see men offering you to carry luggage and take you to your destination as you exit the airport. We request you to pay no attention to these people and follow the designated representatives and follow their instructions. You will also need to keep an eye on your luggage and belongings to avoid any complications.
